That’s right ladies and gentlemen, Ustream, the popular video and audio streaming website, is going to start overlaying ads on their streams! Ustream has partnered up with YuMe and Yahoo! to start advertising in the form of semi-transparent overlays towards the bottom of the streams.
According to Patrick Ross from Ustream, the goal, “is to develop a system of advertising that works technically [and] is acceptable to our viewers and broadcasters while helping us build a sustainable community.” The ads will be able to be closed by the viewers, although will show up near the bottom of the video by default.
Steve, from The Tech Buzz, says “I find them to be a non-nuisance since you can move them to the side, although, I’d like to see the ads to be kept on the topic of the show. If the ads are not targeted to the show’s subject, they may become a nuisance.” Steve is one of the “beta” testers for the ads.
Here’s what the ads look like at this point in time:
All in all, I hope Ustream keeps considering the viewers, and tries many different things when it comes to these ads, besides just the overlays. I’d like to see Ustream stay ad free, but if they need the ads to stay in business, I can absolutely understand that.

I know that typically this site is dedicated ONLY to technology, but my friend really needs your help! Go over to this website and vote 5 stars on her photography. It would be a great help to her, as she would get an award of $2008, and quite a bit of exposure. I’d greatly appreciate it!!!
Thanks everyone, will be back podcasting soon…I promise!
